Nissan Townstar LCV Range Makes It Five Stars!

Townstar progresses from gold to five-star safety rating, Euro NCAP’s top classification.

Nissan’s van lineup has received excellent safety ratings from Euro NCAP, which recently updated its ranking system for light commercial vehicles (LCVs). The compact Townstar and the larger Interstar both achieved the maximum five-star rating, while the medium-sized Primastar received a solid four-star rating. All three vans are available with traditional and all-electric powertrains.

The new star ratings replace the former medal system, with five stars indicating top performance. Townstar improved from a gold status to five stars, demonstrating Nissan’s commitment to safety, especially under Euro NCAP’s more rigorous 2023 assessment protocols.

In the area of safe driving, Townstar scored 79%, Interstar 73%, and Primastar 68%. For collision avoidance tests, Interstar received a score of 76%, Townstar got 74%, and Primastar scored 61%. All models achieved an 80% rating in post-crash safety. Townstar’s autonomous emergency braking system was particularly praised for effectively avoiding collisions with various obstacles.

Euro NCAP recognized Primastar as a safe choice and deemed Interstar’s five-star rating as well-deserved. This year’s criteria place greater emphasis on advanced driver assistance systems and the safety of vulnerable road users.

Every Nissan LCV comes with a five-year or 100,000-mile warranty, offering comprehensive coverage and peace of mind. Francesco Russiello, LCV Category Manager at Nissan, expressed pride in these safety achievements, highlighting the importance of these ratings in helping consumers understand the technology in their vehicles.
