After debuting at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show and launching in Europe last autumn, Mazda’s all-electric saloon will arrive in the UK this summer, the company announced today.

The Mazda6e brings back one of Mazda’s most popular models, now redesigned as an electric car and priced below many premium competitors. Buyers can choose between two trims: the Takumi at £38,995 and the Takumi Plus at £39,995.

While the European version offers two battery choices, UK buyers will get a single 78kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. Mazda says this setup offers the best mix of range, performance, and charging. It has a combined WLTP range of 348 miles, making it competitive with other executive EVs.

A Legacy Reborn

The original Mazda6 was produced from 2002 to 2023 over three generations and gained a loyal following among retail and fleet buyers. The new electric version aims to respect that legacy while adopting a modern design.

“The Mazda6e is the car our dealers have been waiting for,” said Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director of Mazda Motors UK. “With a nod to the popularity of the Mazda6, it’s a real statement of intent for the future.”

Performance and Practicality

The rear-wheel-drive Mazda6e produces 258ps and 290Nm of torque, letting it go from 0 to 62mph in 7.9 seconds. With a 195kW DC charger, the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes, which is helpful for long trips.

Mazda’s latest design, called “Electrifying Design Crafted to Perfection,” builds on its “Kodo Soul of Motion” style. Key features include frameless doors, an electronic rear spoiler, and a front grille that lights up to show charging status with a unique “fluttering wing” animation.

Even with its coupe-style roof, the five-door hatchback is practical, offering a 336-litre boot and a 72-litre front storage space.

Interior Ambition

Inside, Mazda aims for “sophisticated simplicity,” inspired by the Japanese idea of “Ma,” which means finding beauty in empty space. The panoramic roof brings in natural light, and the floating centre console and simple dashboard make the cabin feel open.

Drivers get a 14.6-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel, and an augmented reality head-up display. The trims differ in materials: Takumi models have black or stone Maztex artificial leather, while Takumi Plus comes with tan Nappa leather and artificial suede accents.

Strategic Timing

Thomson acknowledged the challenging environment facing EV adoption in the UK market. “In the UK, we are facing some unique and complex challenges in the balance between EV legislation and consumer demand,” he said, positioning the Mazda6e as part of the company’s “multi-solution approach” that includes mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid alternatives.

More executive saloons are becoming electric, with German and American brands leading the market. Mazda hopes its mix of competitive pricing, unique design, and driver-focused engineering, including suspension tuning by its Frankfurt-based European research team, will help it stand out.

“The Mazda6e is also a car that positions Mazda strongly in the expanding D segment BEV fleet market, where the car’s blend of style, value, practicality and desirability will, I’m sure, win over business users,” Thomson added.

You can now configure and order the Mazda6e, with first deliveries set for this summer. Mazda also announced that the new CX-6e electric SUV will launch later this year, adding to its electric range.
