On the centenary of Sir Jack Brabham’s birth, Goodwood has announced an electrifying tribute at this year’s Goodwood Revival (18–20 September), set to honour the iconic driver, visionary engineer, and motorsport innovator.
This highly anticipated celebration will mark multiple milestones, notably the 100th anniversary of Brabham’s birth and the 60th anniversary of his historic third Formula 1 World Championship title.
Brabham’s illustrious Formula 1 career spanned from 1955 to 1970. In 1966, he achieved the extraordinary—clinching his third World Championship in a car of his own construction, a singular achievement that remains unmatched in the sport’s history.
Co-founding his own team in 1960, Brabham quickly established himself as a pioneering force in both engineering and driving. His inventive spirit revolutionised Formula 1, leaving a profound impact on engineering standards, team strategy, and driver development. In recognition of his unparalleled contributions, Brabham was knighted in 1979—the first Formula 1 driver to receive such an honour.
The Goodwood Revival will assemble a spectacular lineup of up to 50 cars from Brabham’s storied career for a special track parade throughout the weekend. Enthusiasts can expect to see a dazzling array of championship-winning machines, as well as iconic Formula 1, touring, and sports cars that bore the Brabham name through 1970—including vehicles piloted by legends such as Bruce McLaren, Dan Gurney, Denny Hulme, Graham Hill, and Jochen Rindt.
Brabham’s relationship with Goodwood dates back to the earliest days of his career, when he tested and raced the Cooper-Alta at the Motor Circuit in the 1950s. His legacy at Goodwood includes a memorable Formula 2 victory in 1966 and multiple returns to the famed circuit, including appearances at the Festival of Speed in 1996 and the Revival after the track’s reopening in 1998.
This landmark tribute will spotlight not only Jack Brabham’s remarkable career but also the formative successes of the Brabham team. Goodwood is collaborating closely with David Brabham to ensure the festivities authentically capture both the family’s perspective and the enduring significance of the Brabham legacy.
David Brabham, son of Sir Jack and a racing star in his own right, expressed his pride: “My father, Sir Jack, achieved so much throughout his career, from winning his third Formula 1 Championship at the age of 40 to co-founding one of the most influential racing car manufacturers of its time. It means a great deal to our family to see his legacy honoured in this way at Goodwood Revival, especially with so many of his cars coming together. It’s been a joy working with The Duke and his team at Goodwood to bring the 60th anniversary celebration to life.”
The Duke of Richmond, CBE DL, founder of Goodwood Revival, remarked: “Jack Brabham is a true motorsport legend—a triple world champion who uniquely won the championship in a car bearing his own name. He is also one of a select few drivers who were superstars at Goodwood in its first incarnation and again in the modern era. He became a regular at the Festival of Speed, and when he raced at Revival, he had lost none of his fierce competitive streak, despite being in his 70s by the time the circuit reopened. It’s incredibly special that the Brabham family is still so closely connected to Goodwood, with David regularly attending all three of our events. We’re looking forward to celebrating Jack’s career and enduring legacy at the Revival later this year, with many of the wonderful cars he created coming together for the occasion.”
