The Nürburgring will pulse with GTI spirit as Volkswagen throws a spectacular 50th birthday bash for its iconic badge at the legendary 24h endurance race (14-17 May 2026). Marking half a century of adrenaline, innovation, and pure driving fun, the stage is set for an unforgettable motorsport festival. As anticipation builds, Volkswagen is set to electrify the crowd with the reveal of the all-new ID. Polo GTI—marking a historic first for an all-electric model to wear the storied GTI badge. But that’s just the start: the festivities will roar on as three Golf GTI Clubsport 24h machines take to the track, locking horns with the competition in the gruelling endurance showdown.

Record Crowds and Racing Royalty: GTI Shines on the Big Stage

With over 280,000 fans expected, Germany’s largest motorsport extravaganza is the ultimate backdrop for this milestone celebration. The spotlight falls on the Ring-Boulevard, where the world premiere of the ID. Polo GTI will dazzle the public. On the circuit, Volkswagen fields two Golf GTI Clubsport 24h cars—decked out in special anniversary livery—vying for glory in the SP4T class. Star drivers Benjamin Leuchter, Johan Kristoffersson, Heiko Hammel, and Nico Otto will pilot car number 50, aiming for a third consecutive class win. Meanwhile, Fabian Vettel, Timo Hochwind, Jonathan Mogotsi, and Nico Otto will command car number 76. The action doesn’t stop there: a third entry, car number 10, competes in the SP3T class, led by ex-footballer Max Kruse and his team. All entries are expertly prepped by Max Kruse Racing, promising a show fans won’t forget.

Engineering Excellence: The GTI Clubsport 24h Gets Even Sharper

Volkswagen’s engineering team has left no stone unturned in preparing the 397 PS (291 kW) Golf GTI Clubsport 24h for the punishing Nürburgring challenge. With fresh upgrades like active gearbox cooling and fine-tuned engine calibration, reliability and performance are at an all-time high. Lightweight carbon fibre construction keeps the GTI agile at just 1,200 kg (sans driver), while a thoroughly revised race chassis ensures it tames even the wildest twists of the Nordschleife. Powering all three entries is the eco-conscious E20 fuel—comprised of 60% renewables—which delivers both muscle and reduced emissions, underscoring Volkswagen’s commitment to a greener future.
