Renault has launched the 4 E-Tech Electric ‘Plein Sud’ in the UK, featuring a full-length electrically operated canvas roof. Pricing begins at £27,445 on the road, following deductions from the Electric Car Grant.
Offered in techno+ and iconic+ trims, the ‘Plein Sud’ adds open-air driving to Renault’s electric reinterpretation of its classic model, while maintaining the practicality and versatility of the standard Renault 4 E-Tech Electric.
The electrically operated canvas roof echoes the open-top spirit of the original Renault 4, reimagined for modern drivers.
It remains the only electric car in its class to offer a fully opening roof.
The ‘Plein Sud’ offers the same two trim levels as the fixed-roof model, differing only by omitting roof bars and the shark-fin antenna to maximize roof opening.
Like its fixed-roof counterpart, the ‘Plein Sud’ qualifies for the £3,750 Electric Car Grant. Other models in Renault’s electric lineup, including the 5 E-Tech and Scenic E-Tech, are also eligible for this support.
R Pass customers can order immediately, while general public orders open on 14 May.
Open-Air Experience and Everyday Use
The canvas roof, operable by one-touch button or via Renault’s Reno digital assistant, opens to an 80x92cm aperture, providing a panoramic view for all passengers without sacrificing refinement or practicality.
The roof can be stopped at several positions, and its multi-layer design ensures strong acoustic and sealing performance, with minimal effect on headroom or weight.
Practicality and Versatility
Boot space remains unchanged at up to 1,350 litres with the rear seats folded, preserving the practicality that has defined the model.
The 607mm low loading sill, wide tailgate (power-operated on iconic+), and practical storage solutions support everyday convenience.
With 181mm ground clearance and optimized suspension, the 4 E-Tech Electric maintains the original’s go-anywhere ethos.
Inside, the OpenR Link system features a 10-inch central touchscreen with Google built-in, providing navigation, charging optimization, and app access, alongside a 10.3-inch digital instrument display.
Electric Performance
All models use a 52kWh battery and 150hp electric motor, offering up to 242 miles (WLTP) of range.
| MODEL | POWER (kW/hp) | TORQUE (Nm) | BATTERY CAPACITY (kWh) | WLTP RANGE (miles) | CONSUMPTION (kWh/62 miles) | 0-62mph (secs) | TOP SPEED (mph) |
| Renault 4 E-Tech electric 150hp comfort range canvas roof | 110/150 | 245 | 52 | 242 | 15.8 – 15.9 | 8.2 | 93 |
Rapid charging at up to 100kW DC enables a 15–80% charge in about 30 minutes.
One-pedal driving, standard on both trims, improves ease of use, especially in urban settings.
Safety and Driver Assistance
The ‘Plein Sud’ incorporates the latest GSR2.3 safety standard, bringing the number of advanced driver assistance systems to 28 across the range.
A new driver monitoring system detects fatigue, reporting alertness in a Safety Score after each trip.
Emergency stop assist and a predictive eco-driving assistant—using onboard maps—further enhance safety and efficiency.
Personalisation Options
New personalisation options include wing graphics and a central stripe, allowing buyers to tailor their vehicle’s appearance.
Six body colours are available, including Hauts-de-France Green, Glacier White, Urban Grey, Diamond Black, Carmin Red, and Cumulus Blue. A contrasting Diamond Black bonnet and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels are standard.
Pricing and Availability
The ‘Plein Sud’ roof is exclusive to techno+ and iconic+ trims, costing £1,500 more than the fixed-roof equivalents.
