Caterham will utilise immersion-cooled battery packs developed by XING Mobility Inc. in its EV sports coupé prototype, known as Project V.
Caterham, part of the Japanese automotive group VT Holdings, unveiled the Project V concept car, which made its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK in July 2023 and was later showcased at the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan in January 2024.
Project V is an electric sports coupé that embodies Caterham’s DNA—lightweight, straightforward, and enjoyable to drive. To advance toward mass production and commercialization, Caterham is currently developing a prototype vehicle in collaboration with partners TOKYO R&D Co., Ltd. and Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., with plans to complete it by 2025.
In October, it was announced that the project would incorporate an e-Axle developed by Yamaha Motor. Recent progress includes the decision to adopt an immersion-cooled battery pack, another critical component for the electric vehicle.
XING Mobility’s IMMERSIO™ Cell-to-Pack (CTP) immersion-cooled battery pack is notable for its outstanding heat dissipation, safety features, and high energy density. The immersion-cooling technology, where the cells are submerged in a dielectric liquid, ensures enhanced safety through rapid and uniform heat dissipation, along with an impressive energy density of 200 wh/kg. Founded in 2015, XING Mobility is a global leader in immersion-cooling battery technology and has a production facility in Taiwan.
Project V will next be publicly displayed in January 2025 when it returns to the Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan.
