OMODA and JAECOO have launched the Super Hybrid System (SHS) for their advanced plug-in hybrid platform in the UK. The JAECOO 7 SHS, now available for purchase, is the first model to feature this innovative system. It delivers a WLTP fuel efficiency of 403 mpg and a range of 745 miles. The SHS keeps the electric battery charged at all times, ensuring it never depletes completely.

Developed with third-generation hybrid technology from Chery Group, the SHS combines fuel convenience with the driving experience of pure electric power. Key features include ultra-high thermal efficiency, ultra-low carbon emissions (23 g/km), and class-leading battery safety.

The JAECOO 7 SHS is powered by a fifth-generation 1.5-litre TDGI petrol engine producing 105 kW (143 bhp) and 215 Nm of torque. It utilises advanced technologies to maximise fuel efficiency and performance. The hybrid transmission includes a quad-core dual electronic control system and high-efficiency motor components.

The vehicle features an 18.3 kW lithium iron phosphate battery pack, enabling an electric-only range of 56 miles while maintaining a robust safety design. The combined power output is 255 kW (347 bhp) and 525 Nm of torque, allowing quick acceleration—0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.

Peter Matkin, chief engineer of JAECOO, emphasised the importance of plug-in hybrids and the enhanced driving experience offered by the SHS.

The prices for the JAECOO 7 SUV were released in November 2024, starting at £29,435 for petrol and £35,065 for the plug-in hybrid variant. With a 60-litre fuel tank, it maintains the same impressive range and efficiency. Front- and four-wheel-drive configurations are available, with UK deliveries beginning on 31 January. Future models incorporating the SHS will be announced soon.
