Boreham Motorworks is excited to introduce the Ford Escort Alan Mann 68 Edition, a toolroom continuation of the legendary Alan Mann Racing Ford Escort Mk1, celebrated for its achievements in the British Saloon Car Championship. This exclusive model embodies the innovative engineering and performance of its iconic predecessor.
The Ford Escort Alan Mann 68 Edition has been precisely recreated to modern tolerances while adhering to the specifications of the original race car. Its lightweight construction, wide bubble arches, and unique suspension enhance performance, making it a fitting homage to the original.
Limited to just 24 units as part of our ‘Ultra Series,’ owners will receive exclusive access to race events and training, supported by a dedicated pit crew. Events will be held both in the UK and internationally, including private gatherings and historic racing competitions.
While the Mk1 RS, revealed in December 2024, is a modern road car, the Alan Mann 68 Edition is an uncompromising race car, crafted as an exact replica of the original. Each component, from the lightweight body to the race-tuned drivetrain, is engineered for competitive driving.
To preserve authenticity, every component of the original Alan Mann Racing Escort Mk1 was disassembled and scanned at the DRVN Advanced Engineering Centre in Coventry, creating a precise CAD model of the vehicle called XOO 349F.
Manufacturing and assembly are done in-house to ensure the highest quality. Expert craftsmen in Newton Aycliffe build and paint each car, with final assembly completed at Alan Mann Racing HQ in Chobham, Surrey. This combination of modern engineering and heritage craftsmanship guarantees that every Alan Mann 68 Edition is a remarkable masterpiece.
The Championship-Winning Icon, Reborn
The Ford Escort Alan Mann 68 Edition features a 205 PS 1.8-litre Twin Cam engine compliant with FIA historic regulations and a four-speed bullet gearbox. Weighing just 795kg, it delivers an impressive power-to-weight ratio for rapid acceleration.
Engineered in collaboration with Len Bailey, a key figure in the GT40 program, the Escort’s suspension design showcases the racing pedigree of Alan Mann Racing. The original Escorts were built under FIA Group 5 regulations, which allowed creative freedom in their design. Elements from the GT40, including innovative suspension components, were meticulously hand-fabricated by technician Jim Rose.
Now, nearly 60 years later, these features are revived in the Alan Mann 68 Edition, once again crafted with precision by Jim Rose. This model includes KONI 2-way adjustable coil-over dampers and adjustable rose-jointed lower arms for fine-tuning. The rear features a rigid axle with a Watts linkage, and the braking system utilises solid discs with high-performance callipers.
The car underscores its heritage with iconic bubble arches and the legendary red and gold livery, enhancing both grip and appearance.
An Exclusive Opportunity to Own a Motorsport Icon
The Ford Escort Alan Mann 68 Edition will be offered in two specifications:
- Period Correct: A replica of the original XOO 349F, built to FIA Group 5 regulations, as it was at the end of its racing career in 1969.
- Modern Race: Features an FIA Technical Passport and modern safety enhancements, making it eligible for historic racing.
Only 24 models will be produced, making this not just a limited edition, but a continuation of a motorsport legacy.
Henry Mann, Managing Director of Alan Mann Racing, said, “The Alan Mann 68 Edition embodies my father’s vision for precision engineering and lightweight solutions.”
The Next Chapter of Alan Mann Racing & Ford Motor Company
In 1968, Alan Mann Racing transformed the Ford Escort Mk1 into a motorsport icon by winning the British Saloon Car Championship. The Ford Escort Alan Mann 68 Edition signifies the next chapter of this legacy, with each of the 24 examples featuring official continuation chassis numbers.
Iain Muir, CEO of DRVN Group, noted, “Reviving the Ford Escort Alan Mann 68 Edition celebrates a legacy of innovation and motorsport excellence, ensuring that the spirit of this iconic race car continues to inspire enthusiasts.”
