Telling road users not to let worn tyres be the third wheel this Valentine’s Day!

TyreSafe, the UK’s road safety charity, is launching its February campaign, “Love Your Tyres,” to remind road users to prioritise regular tyre checks.

While many Brits spend on Valentine’s Day, a recent survey by the RAC found that only one-third (33%) of drivers check their vehicle’s tyre tread monthly, the minimum recommended frequency. This highlights the need for greater awareness of tyre safety, especially during a month focused on celebrations.

Neglecting regular tyre checks increases the risk of incidents, fines, and unnecessary disruptions on UK roads. National Highways reports over 50,000 breakdowns annually on A roads and motorways, emphasising the importance of proper tyre maintenance to prevent accidents and costly breakdowns.

The “Love Your Tyres” campaign encourages drivers to “ACT” on tyre safety, focusing on:

  1. Air Pressure: Keep tyres properly inflated for better performance.
  2. Condition: Regularly check for damage like cuts and bulges.
  3. Tread: Maintain sufficient tread depth for grip and braking.

Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe Chair, remarked, “Tyres are often overlooked. Our campaign serves as a timely reminder for road users to give their tyres the attention they deserve.”

TyreSafe offers social media graphics and downloadable guides on its website to empower drivers with the necessary knowledge for tyre safety.
