Ansible Motion, a prominent manufacturer of Driver-in-the-Loop (DIL) simulators, has broadened its partnership with Penske Autosport by supplying four new Theta Seat Sport simulators.
After the introduction of the Delta S3 DIL simulator to Penske Autosport in 2024, the racing team now operates a multi-simulator testing and development centre. The five-simulator setup enables the driver using the Delta S3 simulator at DS Penske—which features full dynamics, 48K image rendering, a 360° wrap-around screen, and a genuine Formula E cockpit—to interact in real time with four drivers in separate Theta Seat Sport simulators.
Phil Charles, deputy team principal at DS Penske, commented:
“Having experienced the capabilities of the Delta S3, we were eager to expand our simulator program to include multiple drivers, which the Theta Seat Sport suite facilitates.”
AVL RACETECH, a technical partner of Ansible Motion, supplied a vehicle modelling network that enables unified multi-simulator connectivity. Guillermo Pezzetto, global sales and business development manager at AVL RACETECH, highlighted the realism of the simulations, including traffic scenarios crucial for developing race car setups.
The Theta Seat Sport simulators are tailored for motorsport applications. They boast advanced computational architecture and the capability to connect multiple simulators. Their modular structure facilitates swift adaptation to various racing series.
Dan Clark, Managing Director of Ansible Motion, expressed his excitement that Penske Autosport has recognised the advantages of the Sport simulators, which will bolster their Formula E title challenge in 2025.
The simulators were produced in the UK and delivered in January 2025, merely three months after the order was placed. They are now operational for the ongoing Formula E season.
