BYD, a global leader in New Energy Vehicles, has produced its 15 millionth NEV. This marks another important step toward more sustainable transportation.

New Energy Vehicles include both pure-electric BEVs and models with advanced Super Hybrid DM technology. BYD aims to show more people the benefits of these powertrains as part of its goal to help cool the earth by one degree.

Employees celebrated this milestone at BYD’s Jinan factory in China, which began mass production three years ago. The 15 millionth NEV was also the 15,000th N8L, a large six-seat SUV from BYD’s premium brand DENZA. This model uses the same Super Hybrid and e3 platform as the Z9GT, which will launch DENZA in Europe in 2026.

BYD produced its first New Energy Vehicle, the F3DM, in 2008. It was the world’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid. Reaching the first million NEVs took 13 years, but strong growth and customer demand helped BYD reach 15 million in just 13 months. The 14 millionth NEV was completed on 9 October 2025.

This milestone caps a strong year for BYD. In the first 11 months of 2025, the company produced 4.182 million vehicles, up 11.3% from last year. Overseas sales reached 917,000 units, already more than all of 2024. BYD now operates in over 110 countries and regions.

BYD continues to invest in research and development. In the first three quarters of 2025, the company spent RMB 43.75 billion (5.3 billion euros) on R&D, a 31% increase from last year. Total R&D investment now exceeds RMB 220 billion (26.65 billion euros). These efforts have led to advances in battery technology, packaging, intelligent driving assistance, and megawatt Flash Charging, which will be introduced in Europe in 2026.

BYD is now present in 33 European countries with 1,000 sales locations. The company plans to double its dealerships by the end of 2026.
