The BMW Group is set to commence production of its first Neue Klasse model, the new BMW iX3. Manufacturing will start in late October at the BMW Group plant in Debrecen, Hungary. This facility is the newest and most innovative in the company’s global production network.

Milan Nedeljković, a member of BMW AG’s Board of Management responsible for Production, said, “Starting production of the BMW iX3 marks a new phase in automotive manufacturing. Our Debrecen plant is built to match our vision for iFACTORY, which aims for efficient, fossil fuel-free production from the start.”

The BMW iFACTORY emphasises efficient production, responsible resource use, and the latest digital technology, while also considering employee needs. The BMW Group has also secured numerous patents for new systems and processes at the Debrecen plant.

Hans-Peter Kemser, head of BMW Group Plant Debrecen, said, “We accepted the challenge of building a new vehicle as our first project in this new plant, doing it as efficiently as possible. We have simplified processes and used a digital approach to validate each step, while sharing expertise across our network. This has resulted in a plant with efficient production, innovative processes, and flexibility for future models.”

After production starts, the capacity for the BMW iX3 will gradually increase in stages. As the first of the Neue Klasse vehicles, the iX3 showcases the latest designs and technologies that will shape the brand’s future models. From now until 2027, the technologies from the Neue Klasse will be adopted in 40 new models and updates.
