New Nissan LEAF crowned Supreme Winner 2026

New Nissan LEAF crowned Supreme Winner for 2026 by Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year.

Awarded by an international jury and honouring LEAF’s legacy as a global EV pioneer.
Accolade recognises LEAF’s excellence in design, electric powertrain technology, and everyday practicality.

In a resounding victory that electrified the automotive world, the all-new Nissan LEAF has claimed the coveted title of 2026 Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) – the highest distinction awarded by a panel comprised exclusively of women automotive journalists from around the globe.

From its trailblazing debut in 2010 as the world’s first mass‑market electric vehicle, the Nissan LEAF has been an unstoppable force in the electric mobility revolution. Now, in its third generation, the new LEAF dazzles with a sleeker silhouette, extended driving range, and cutting-edge, intuitive technology – features that the WWCOTY jury enthusiastically celebrated this year. Rising above a field of 55 fierce competitors, the LEAF’s standout appeal captured the hearts and minds of judges hailing from more than 50 countries.

What sets the WWCOTY accolade apart is its focus on what truly matters to everyday drivers: safety, design, value, ease of use, and environmental impact. The jury, 86 strong, praised the LEAF for its realistic, people-first approach to electric mobility – balancing advanced performance with the simplicity and joy of daily driving.

“In our voting, we have focused on vehicles that stand out not only for their figures or technology, but for how effectively they respond to people’s real, everyday needs,” shared Marta García, Executive President of WWCOTY. “The Nissan LEAF represents a mature and intelligent vision of electrification — one that makes electric mobility truly usable and accessible.”

For Ivan Espinosa, President & CEO of Nissan, the recognition is a testament to the LEAF’s legacy and future: “New LEAF being named overall winner by the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year is a proud moment for everyone at Nissan. LEAF helped bring electric driving into the mainstream, and this new generation carries that mission forward. It’s designed to make going electric easier and more enjoyable for more people around the world.”

And this isn’t the LEAF’s only triumph this year – earlier, it was also crowned Best Compact Car by WWCOTY, thanks to its practical and accessible approach to electric driving.

With this latest honour, the Nissan LEAF not only continues its legacy but inspires a new era of drivers to embrace the future of mobility with confidence and excitement.
