Smart has announced that it is developing a new two-seater city car, the smart #2, building on the legacy of the iconic fortwo. This all-electric model will feature advanced EV technology and retain the core qualities of the original fortwo. The smart #2 is set to debut internationally in late 2026, with Europe as a primary market.
Designed by the Mercedes-Benz Design team, the smart #2 will showcase innovative technology in a segment established by the fortwo 27 years ago. Production will take place in China, and the car is currently in the final design and development phase.
Dirk Adelmann, CEO of smart Europe, remarked that the launch of the smart #2 marks a significant milestone for the brand, especially in major cities like Rome, London, and Paris. With backing from shareholders Mercedes-Benz and Geely, along with new investors, the smart #2 aims to add unique value to smart’s all-electric portfolio in Europe.
Following the success of the smart #1, #3, and #5, the smart #2 will provide a relevant option for customers, expanding smart’s offerings to include agile city cars and premium SUVs.
