With electricity prices rising on April 1st, you can travel over 200 miles for the price of a cup of coffee with an electric vehicle (EV) charged by Ohme, the UK’s largest home EV charging company. By switching to a dynamic home electricity tariff, such as Intelligent Octopus Go at 7p per kWh, you could drive 234 miles for only £4.10, which is the cost of a Starbucks Caramel Macchiato. However, starting April 1, 2025, the Standard Variable Tariff will increase to 27p per kWh.
Ohme CEO David Watson emphasises the significance of smart tariffs for EV drivers looking to save money. The company’s chargers are compatible with all UK energy tariffs and can connect to the national grid in real-time to optimize charging costs.
For example, charging the average UK distance of 6,800 miles annually would cost about £119—less than £10 a month—compared to £459 at the new rates. Fully charging a Volkswagen ID.3 with a 77 kWh battery could cost only £5.39 for a range of 344 miles.
Ohme has introduced the MultiCar function in its app, enabling drivers with multiple EVs to effortlessly switch between vehicles and monitor the related charging costs. The company also serves as the official charger provider for major brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Volkswagen and supports customers in the Motability scheme.
Recently, Ohme won two awards for its ePod and for Best Tariff Integration in the 2024 What Wallcharger? Awards.
