The number of available new diesel car models in the UK has dropped significantly since 2015, with just 65 diesel variants available from the 30 most popular manufacturers, compared to 202 in 2015.

Diesel’s market share has also declined, from 48.5% in 2015 to just 3.8% in 2023. Factors contributing to this decline include higher taxes, low emission zones, increasing fuel costs, and the diesel emissions scandal.

Despite this, there has been a recent 17.1% increase in diesel sales from private buyers, indicating that diesel cars still have appeal. For those interested in purchasing a diesel car, there are many used models available that comply with low emission standards.
