Every year, the Goodwood Revival’s track opening parade brings together a diverse array of vehicles that gather at the historic circuit to kick off each day’s events. From the most extensive motorcycle parade in 2023 to last year’s brigade of beach buggies, the spotlight will be on the Volkswagen Type 2 Split Screen this time.

The 2025 Goodwood Revival will feature the most varied Volkswagen Type 2 Split Screens collection ever assembled. Over the years, this model has gained immense popularity and has been adapted for various uses, including ambulances, fire engines, transporters, and even ice cream vans. Visitors to the Revival can expect a delightful display of vans in vibrant colours taking to the track each morning.

Introduced by Volkswagen in 1950, the Type 2 Split Screen was the brand’s second mass-produced light motor vehicle, manufactured in Wolfsburg for nearly twenty years until 1967. While many of these vehicles remained commercial vans, their use and image evolved in the 1960s to reflect a more adventurous spirit. This led to introducing models such as the Kombi, Microbus, Samba, and Camper. As a result, the Volkswagen ‘Splitties’ became a globally recognised symbol of freedom and adventure, inspiring drivers to embrace the open road.

Now, 75 years later, the VW Type 2 continues to create countless memories for generations of travellers, and the Goodwood Revivals’ track opening parade will celebrate these beloved vans enjoyed by so many.

  • Over the weekend, the track opening parade will join a full schedule of thirteen races set to run exclusively on sustainable fuel.

Alongside taking to the track each morning, the classic VW Type 2s will take over the front two rows of the Tax Exempt Classic Car Parking, allowing visitors and owners to display their beloved camper in style. You can book your space on the Goodwood website.
