CNC Motorsport has completed the first continuation of the Andy Rouse Engineering specification Ford Sierra RS500 Group A race cars. This project is a collaboration with the four-time saloon/touring car champion and involves the construction of three cars for track use.

The first car was assembled over the past 24 months by Alan Strachan, who worked at Andy Rouse Engineering from 1989 to 1996, and his son Andrew. They also worked on other projects such as the Group A BMW 635CSI build, the restoration of a Merkur XR4TI, and a period Sierra RS500. The second car is currently under construction and will use a new Motorsport specification bodyshell, while a third donor’s shell has already been sourced for the final car.

CNC Motorsport handled all the fabrication work to the bodyshell and produced various machined parts in-house, including uprights, rear arms, hubs, brake calipers, wheel centers, and the roll cage. The build was done according to the exacting specification of the period Andy Rouse Engineering cars, with input from Andy himself to ensure authenticity. CNC Motorsport is the only certified producer of period ARE cages by Motorsport UK.

The first car is equipped with a 575bhp Cosworth YB engine built by Harvey Gibbs and a 10″ viscous differential. According to Alan Strachan, “This project has enabled us to build a reliable, period-correct car that will be competitive in historic motorsport for a fraction of the cost of an original.”

The Sierra Cosworth RS500 was announced in July 1987, with 500 road cars produced and several key upgrades for Touring Car racing. The Rouse continuation car will be based on the 909 Motorsport shells used for race cars.

Based in the Cotswolds, CNC Motorsport specialises in motorsport engineering, restoration, and recreation of historic touring cars from the 1970s and 1980s. It utilises modern technologies such as CNC and 3D printing to ensure accurate restoration and recreation of these iconic vehicles.
