Are we ready for a Ford GT generation drag race?

Carwow’s Mat Watson has an original Ford GT 40 from 1967, a second-generation GT from 2006, and a third-generation from 2017, and we want to see how the three compare. Let’s start with the GT 40, which comes equipped with a 4.7-litre naturally-aspirated V8 engine that delivers 310hp and 450Nm of torque. This power is sent to the rear wheels only through a 5-speed manual gearbox, and it weighs 1,230kg. When it was first released, it cost $18,500, but if you want to buy one now, it’ll set you back $2,500,000.

Moving on to the Mk2, it has a 5.4-litre supercharged V8 that puts down 560hp and 680Nm. All the power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual, and it weighs 1,520kg. It cost £110,000 when it was first released, but now it costs around £500,000.

Finally, the latest GT is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 that can deliver 650hp and 750Nm. It’s the only car here with an automatic gearbox, with all this power sent to the rear wheels through a 7-speed dual clutch. It weighs 1,485kg and cost £440,000 when it was first released, but now it’s valued at around £1,000,000.

So, will the all-new GT be the clear winner, or could one of the older models surprise us? There’s only one way to find out…LET’S RACE!
