JAECOO UK has announced the expansion of its compact SUV range with the introduction of the JAECOO 5 SHS-H, a new model equipped with a full-hybrid powertrain. The JAECOO 5 SHS-H builds on the established JAECOO 5 platform, offering a full-hybrid option to enhance efficiency while maintaining usability and range. The model will be available from £26,270 OTR**, supported by OMODA & JAECOO UK’s comprehensive vehicle and battery warranty, with customer deliveries expected to commence in Q3 2026.
The launch of the JAECOO 5 SHS-H follows the introduction of the OMODA 5 (SHS-H) full-hybrid by sister brand OMODA UK in January, and the confirmation of the larger JAECOO 7 SHS-H in March 2026. Entering the expanding compact SUV segment, the JAECOO 5 SHS-H merges the model’s core attributes—practicality, spaciousness, and a focus on adventure—with a full-hybrid system engineered to deliver consistent performance in everyday driving scenarios.
Chery International supplies the full-hybrid powertrain for the JAECOO 5 SHS-H, integrating a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a dedicated DHT automatic transmission to deliver a combined output of up to 165 kW. The Super Hybrid System, calibrated specifically for this model, aims to provide a smooth and predictable driving experience. Coupled with front-wheel-drive, the system is optimised for efficiency across diverse driving conditions.
Equipped with a 1.83 kWh battery and a 51-litre fuel tank, the JAECOO 5 SHS-H offers a total driving range exceeding 650 miles and achieves fuel economy figures of up to 53 mpg (WLTP). The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds, presenting an efficient alternative for consumers seeking improved fuel efficiency without sacrificing range or practicality. Notably, the hybrid system operates without requiring plug-in charging.
The JAECOO 5 SHS-H maintains the exterior styling of the existing JAECOO 5 range, including its upright stance, broad shoulders, and signature waterfall grille. Design elements are inspired by natural forms and terrain, resulting in a compact SUV that balances visual presence with daily practicality. The SHS-H is offered in five exterior colours—Granite White, Graphite Grey, Basalt Black, Copper Green, and Lazuli Blue—with two-tone options available for Granite White and Copper Green. The model continues to embody the brand’s commitment to versatility, capability, and comfort.
The JAECOO 5 SHS-H will be available in both Pure and Luxury specifications, consistent with the rest of the JAECOO 5 line-up. The Pure trim offers features such as a 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen, a six-speaker SONY audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, and an array of advanced driver assistance systems. The Luxury trim adds further amenities, including an eight-speaker SONY audio system, a 1.45m² tilt and slide sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and heated and ventilated front seats.
Victor Zhang, Deputy CEO of Chery International UK, stated that the JAECOO 5 has been designed for everyday practicality, comfort, and capability. According to Zhang, the introduction of a full-hybrid option expands customers’ choices, providing a more efficient driving experience, particularly in urban environments, without requiring changes to established driving habits. Zhang emphasised that achieving this balance was a central goal for the new variant.
The introduction of the JAECOO 5 SHS-H broadens the brand’s compact SUV portfolio, joining the existing petrol and electric variants to form a comprehensive powertrain line-up within the competitive compact SUV segment. This expanded range offers consumers a clear selection of powertrains while preserving consistency in design, usability, and specifications across the lineup.
Pricing for the JAECOO 5 SHS-H will begin at £26,270 OTR** for the Pure trim and £29,765 OTR** for the Luxury trim, with UK customer deliveries scheduled to commence in Q3 2026. The model will be covered by a 7-year/100,000-mile warranty and an 8-year/100,000-mile battery warranty, and will be offered through OMODA&JAECOO UK’s national dealership network.
