Lotus, which appears to be facing some financial difficulties, has not seen much success since it was acquired by Geely. Deliveries of the Emira sports car have been delayed, the Evija hypercar has yet to go into production, and the Eletre SUV and Emeya super-saloon have been introduced at a time when interest in electric vehicles (EVs) is declining.

Theory 1 is a concept car designed to attract attention during challenging times. Lotus’s next production car will be a smaller electric SUV, similar in size to the Porsche Macan. Thus, Theory 1 serves as a reminder that Lotus is still focused on redefining what it means to be a Lotus beyond just the brand name.

The Theory 1 introduces a new design language for Lotus and showcases an innovative approach to production, using only a few materials for the bodywork. It also introduces “Lotuswear,” which aims to evoke raw emotion and pure excitement when driving this 1000hp electric supercar.

How does it work? The Theory 1 features seats that can inflate on one side or the other, and a steering yoke that can change shape, thanks to the application of textile-based wearable robotics technology in the automotive sector for the first time.
