With the rise of electric vehicles and stricter emissions regulations, manual gearboxes are becoming less common. However, there’s also a resurgence happening. The £2.8m GMA T.50 and the £2.2m Pagani Utopia offer manual gearboxes, while Toyota is testing a manual gearbox for electric vehicles.
Aston Martin’s Valour, priced at £1m, pairs a manual gearbox with a twin-turbo 5.2-litre V12 and features retro-inspired carbon fibre bodywork. Only 110 of these will be made.
The £231k Porsche 911 S/T also features a manual gearbox and is compared to a 911 GT3 RS or a GT3 Touring with an enhanced engine. Despite the shift towards automatic transmissions, the traditional manual gearbox is still very much alive.
As a result, the Aston and Porsche were taken out for a drive on some beautiful roads by Editor-in-Chief Jack Rix and Deputy Editor Ollie Kew as a small celebration.
