Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles supports Medical Detection Dogs, Volkswagen Group UK’s chosen charity of the year, by delivering an all-electric ID—Buzz Cargo to support the charity’s work. The vehicle will transport dogs to and from training, home visits, public access training, and veterinary appointments. It has been specially fitted with crates to secure the dogs and provide space for training equipment.

Based in Milton Keynes, Medical Detection Dogs researches dogs’ ability to detect human diseases. They train Bio-Detection Dogs to detect odours related to diseases such as cancer, Parkinson’s, and bacterial infections. Additionally, they train Medical Alert Assistance Dogs to detect changes in their clients’ smell to signal an upcoming medical crisis.

These dogs support individuals with conditions such as Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS), Addison’s Disease, severe allergies, Type 1 diabetes, and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome. The charity’s research aims to develop faster and more effective disease detection methods using dogs’ sense of smell.
