MINI highlights the importance of small spaces in fostering change through a collaboration with James Stewart, a well-known UK broadcaster specialising in science and sustainability, to promote Tiny Forests.
James, nominated by Harvard University as a ‘climate creator to watch,’ explored three Tiny Forests using a single charge of a MINI Countryman Electric, which can travel up to 287 miles (WLTP combined). Each forest consists of over 600 trees planted in tennis-court-sized areas as part of MINI UK’s partnership with Earthwatch Europe. His visits included one site in Newbury and two near MINI Plant Oxford and BMW Group Plant Swindon.
With ample boot capacity in the MINI Countryman Electric for gardening equipment, James highlighted the importance of nature while monitoring the growth of the saplings.
He expressed, “I loved exploring these Tiny Forests. Nature should be for everyone, and their accessibility is brilliant! We’ve never needed nature more than we do today.”
The 14 Tiny Forests planted by MINI span 2,844 square metres, attracting around 500 new species each. Over 1,600 volunteers have helped bring these forests to life from 2021 to 2023. MINI and Earthwatch Europe will continue to monitor their progress and impact on social and environmental well-being.
