The £160,000 Land-Rover Defender OCTA caught the attention of Top Gear after a viral video showcased a prototype performing a four-wheel drift at the Nürburgring.
The finalised specifications are equally impressive: it’s the most powerful Defender ever, featuring a 635 bhp V8 engine. Land Rover has increased its height by 28mm and widened it by 68mm. It also boasts Brembo brakes and a hydraulically interlinked ‘6D Dynamics’ suspension system, comparable to those found in high-end McLaren vehicles.
Now, Top Gear has the opportunity to drive it, testing it on some of South Africa’s toughest trails.
Does it truly live up to its reputation as ‘the most extreme Defender ever,’ or does it falter under pressure?
The verdict is in this video from Top Gear’s Editor-in-Chief, Jack Rix.
