What you’re looking at is the first finished prototype of the TWR Supercat, which Top Gear recently tested in California, USA.
To remind you, 88 of these remarkable cars are being produced—a nod to TWR’s victory at the 1988 Le Mans with Jaguar.
Interestingly, TWR will manufacture more cars next year than Jaguar itself, with the first batch set to be released in 2025. Strange, but true!
The Supercat starts with a classic Jaguar XJS, which TWR transforms through restomod upgrades. These include enhancements to the chassis and braking system, along with a new interior featuring modern conveniences.
However, the standout changes are the wide, all-carbon body with wings. The engine begins as an original 5.3-liter V12 but is bored out to 5.6 liters. It is dry-sumped and fitted with a new cylinder head, upgraded valve train, billet cams, a supercharger, and a charge cooling system. TWR estimates that it will deliver over 650 bhp and 516 lb-ft of torque.
