The order intake rate is much higher than for the EX30 small SUV after its 2023 reveal, a high-volume, lower-priced segment car.

Volvo Cars is shifting into high gear, announcing a surge in 2026 production volumes for its hotly anticipated, all-electric EX60 SUV. The move comes on the heels of remarkable customer demand in Sweden—Volvo’s home turf—and powerhouse European markets like Germany, signalling a new era for the iconic automaker.

Barely a month has passed since the EX60’s public debut, yet major European markets are already clocking retail orders that far exceed Volvo’s own predictions. Sweden leads the charge with more than 3,000 orders, fueled by Volvo’s innovative new Care offer, which puts simplicity, transparency, and precision at the heart of car ownership—plus, buyers enjoy three years of complimentary home charging.

What’s truly electrifying about the EX60’s reception is the sheer pace of orders. The SUV’s order rate is outstripping that of the EX30—Volvo’s compact, budget-friendly electric SUV—which itself made waves upon its global launch in 2023. The kicker? The EX60’s order books are open only in Europe for now, with American customers set to join the action later this spring.

In response, Volvo is mapping out a measured but ambitious ramp-up of EX60 production at its historic Torslanda plant near Gothenburg. The company is in discussions with labour unions to keep the factory humming for an extra week this summer—a first in Volvo’s storied history.

We’re thrilled by the overwhelming response to the EX60,” said Erik Severinson, Volvo Cars’ chief commercial officer. “Demand has exceeded even our boldest forecasts—a good problem to have. We’re now reviewing our 2026 production plans as we gear up to deliver this game-changing electric SUV to customers, with production starting next month.”

Unveiled to widespread acclaim at the end of January, the EX60 is designed to redefine the market: it offers a class-leading range, ultra-fast charging that can be completed during a coffee break, and a price comparable to Volvo’s best-selling XC60 plug-in hybrid. The future looks promising—and it’s electric, Swedish, and unmistakably Volvo.
