Aston Martin aims to produce the most powerful cars in each segment it competes in, which is an admirable goal. However, challenges arise when competing against models like the Porsche 911 Turbo S with its four-wheel drive and Ferrari, which consistently pushes the peak power of its naturally aspirated V12 engines higher and higher. The result is a 656bhp Vantage that can be difficult to handle, and now we have the 824bhp Vanquish.
The impressive power and 737 lb-ft of torque come from a twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12. But is this amount of power excessive? Aston Martin believes not, thanks to several features: a sophisticated electronic rear differential, custom tires, a body that is 75% stiffer than the previous Ultimate model, and a longer wheelbase. This longer wheelbase also helps create a classic long-bonnet GT appearance by increasing the distance between the front axle and the A-pillar.
So, is the design and dynamics of this car truly exceptional, or are they merely all talk and no substance?
Let’s turn to Top Gear Magazine’s Associate Editor, Tom Ford, for an in-depth review.
