Introducing the new Mercedes CLE!
This model replaces both the C-Class Coupe and the E-Class Coupe. The big question is: Does it successfully blend the best features of both? Mat Watson from Carwow is here to investigate.
The design is innovative from the outside. The grille is adorned with mini Mercedes stars, encircling a large central badge. Actual vents flank each side, giving the car a sporty appearance from the front.
The sleek design continues along the sides, featuring creases that run the entire car length, with black trim around the windows. At the back, the look is appealing, although there is one significant drawback—fake exhausts. When will Mercedes learn to avoid this trend?
Inside, the CLE offers an impressive experience. A large infotainment screen is centrally located on the dashboard, and the digital gauge display offers multiple configurations. While the cabin looks remarkable overall, some areas are disappointingly covered in cheap plastic.
Several engine options are available under the hood, including a 2-litre turbo diesel engine producing 197 horsepower. Additionally, two 2-litre turbo petrol engines generate 204 horsepower and 258 horsepower, respectively. A plug-in hybrid variant is also available, delivering 313 horsepower. The model we review features a 3-litre straight-six engine producing 381 horsepower, while the top-of-the-line AMG variant boasts 449 horsepower.
The CLE range starts at £46,000, though the price can increase significantly for higher trims. The 450 model we are reviewing is priced at around £73,000, and it’s important to note that it’s not even the top-tier AMG version.
So, is it worth the investment? Stay tuned with Mat to find out!
