Famous photographer Mathieu Cesar’s black-and-white portraiture captures emotion and character, showcasing his expertise in lighting and a retro-futuristic style. A lifelong car enthusiast, he states, “Cars are the result of human ingenuity… We’re trying to achieve that with our Monochromatic project with the Alpine designers.”
In collaboration with Alpine, Cesar created a monochromatic car, transforming it into a work of art through the purity of black and white and chrome details. The Monochromatic project merges the artist’s vision with the brand’s craftsmanship, emphasizing simplicity and sophistication.
The design enhances the iconic A110 S’s timeless curves and powerful performance (300 bhp, 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, 3.7 kg/hp). Antony Villain, Alpine Design Director, describes the collaboration as a fusion of photography and automotive expertise, driven by passion and emotion.
The unique black and white gradient on the exterior was developed early in 2024, while the interior contrasts with white upper sections and black lower sections. 3D printing was utilized for lightweight designs, reflecting the exterior gradation.
Throughout this partnership, Cesar captured the essence of Alpine in striking photographs and a film, solidifying the brand’s commitment to creativity through consecutive collaborations.
