Volvo Cars is lowering the cost of electric vehicle ownership through a partnership with OVO and Kaluza. This collaboration provides access to home recharging at a competitive rate of just 7 pence per kilowatt-hour, or about 2 pence per mile driven, for owners of eligible Volvo EVs using OVO’s Charge Anytime add-on. Additionally, participants receive a £50 credit to their OVO energy plan, covering approximately 2,700 miles of driving in a Volvo EC40.
The Charge Anytime add-on optimizes charging when carbon emissions and prices are lower. Volvo owners need an OVO account and to select the add-on via the Volvo Cars app. This special rate is one of the most competitive in the UK, allowing charging for as little as £217 a year.
Research by OVO shows that financial factors greatly influence UK drivers’ decisions to switch to EVs, with 56% citing lower running costs and 40% mentioning government incentives. Three in four respondents said they would prefer purchasing an EV with access to a tariff that charges at the lowest rates.
Nicole Melillo Shaw, Managing Director of Volvo Car UK, emphasized the initiative’s economic and environmental benefits. Mat Moakes, Chief Commercial Officer of OVO, stated that this partnership aims to make electric motoring more affordable for everyone, while Neel Gulhar, Chief Product Officer of Kaluza, highlighted the importance of collaborations in supporting a greener energy transition.
