Broad Arrow Auctions, part of Hagerty (NYSE: HGTY), is thrilled to be presenting a magnificent Jaguar D-Type at our inaugural Zürich Auction this November!
Introducing Chassis XKD 551, one of only 71 ever made, with the highly desired short-nose design. Importantly, this D-Type has never been raced, making it a highly sought-after find for collectors.
Join us at the elegant Dolder Grand hotel on Saturday, November 1, 2025. “We are honoured to feature this extraordinary Jaguar D-Type at our first Zürich Auction,” said Yves Boitel, Car Specialist for EMEA. “It’s pristine condition and unraced history will excite collectors!”
Manufactured in 1956, Chassis XKD 551 was first delivered in 1957. Instead of racing it, the owner modified it to a semi-XKSS specification, adding a passenger door and a full-width windscreen. The D-Type later passed to the Hon. James Dawnay and then to Formula 1 driver Paul Hawkins.
After careful restoration in the 1970s, it has been owned by its Swiss owner since 1994. The original XK inline-six engine (no. E 2070-9) has been meticulously rebuilt and recently reinstalled, remaining in excellent condition.
This un-raced Jaguar D-Type, with matching chassis and engine numbers, comes with valuable documentation and is eligible for prestigious historic racing events such as the Goodwood Revival and Mille Miglia Storica.
“The excitement is palpable as we approach our first Zürich Auction,” noted Paul Gaucher, Head of Consignments for Switzerland. “We can’t wait to unveil more breathtaking models soon!”
