The New World’s Fastest Production Car and Its Electric: VIDEO

YANGWANG, the luxury sub-brand of global new-energy vehicle (NEV) leader BYD, has established a new world record for production car top speed at 496.22 km/h (308.4 mph).

Motoring Echo can confirm that on 14 September 2025, YANGWANG launched the U9 Xtreme, setting a new record as the fastest car in the world with a top speed of 490.484 km/h (304.48 mph). This electric hypercar, formerly known as the U9 Track/Special Edition, demonstrates a commitment to zero emissions while delivering extraordinary power and speed.

The feat was achieved with YANGWANG’s latest U9 Xtreme hypercar on 14 September 2025, surpassing its previous EV record and the 490.484 km/h (304.48 mph) maximum of the fastest petrol-powered model to become the world’s quickest car overall.

Key features of the U9X include a groundbreaking 1200V powertrain, a lithium-iron-phosphate Blade Battery with a 30C discharge rate, four high-speed motors generating over 3,000 PS, and advanced DiSus-X suspension. Stella Li, BYD’s Executive VP, expressed pride in this achievement, thanking the dedicated team and driver Marc Basseng, who skillfully set the speed record.

The driver for the U9X’s record-breaking run was Marc Basseng, a German track specialist with a long history in sports-car racing and endurance motorsport.

Limited to just 30 units, the U9 Xtreme embodies YANGWANG’s ethos of pushing boundaries and embracing innovation. With this launch, YANGWANG is redefining sustainable hypercars, backed by BYD’s dedication to performance and sustainability.
