Skywell New Energy Vehicles has hit a major milestone in China’s push for cleaner cities, delivering 249 hydrogen fuel cell buses to Guangzhou in what’s being called one of the country’s largest single hydrogen bus rollouts to date.
The impressive fleet, developed in partnership with tech giant Skyworth and Hyundai Motor Group’s hydrogen subsidiary HTWO Guangzhou, is set to transform public transportation in the bustling southern Chinese city. The buses will be rolled out gradually across Guangzhou’s transit network as part of the city’s ambitious plan to achieve zero-emission mobility.
These aren’t just any buses. Built specifically for city life, they feature low floors and barrier-free designs that make getting on and off easier for everyone, including passengers with disabilities. Inside, there’s plenty of optimised space for comfortable commutes.
But the real game-changer is what’s under the hood. Powered by HTWO Guangzhou’s cutting-edge fuel cell technology, these buses produce zero tailpipe emissions. They can refuel with hydrogen in minutes, not hours, and can cover long distances—perfect for keeping up with demanding urban routes throughout the day.
The project brings together the best of both worlds: Skyworth Auto’s expertise in building commercial vehicles and HTWO Guangzhou’s advanced hydrogen technology. Together, they’re working to make hydrogen-powered public transport the norm rather than the exception across China.
The new fleet is expected to make a real dent in Guangzhou’s carbon footprint while helping build out the city’s hydrogen infrastructure and ecosystem. It’s a win-win for clean air and sustainable urban development.
Skywell isn’t stopping here. The company plans to keep expanding its lineup of electric and hydrogen commercial vehicles, partnering with cities across China and internationally to drive the shift toward sustainable transportation.
