On this occasion, Carwow’s Mat Watson and team collaborate with Arctic Trucks to evaluate the performance of two pickup trucks—the Volkswagen Amarok and the Toyota Hilux—on an off-road course.
Let’s take a closer look at each truck’s specifications and features.
The Toyota Hilux AT37 features a 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine, producing 204 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic transmission, and the vehicle weighs a total of 2,200 kg.
For off-road capabilities, the Hilux has been redesigned to fit 37-inch all-terrain tyres, improved front and rear differentials, and an adjustable suspension system. The total price for this model and its upgrades is £78,000.
On the other hand, the VW Amarok has a more powerful 3-litre V6 diesel engine that produces 240 horsepower. Like the Hilux, the Amarok features a redesigned chassis and body, along with 37-inch all-terrain tyres and an improved suspension system. Notably, the Amarok includes a low-range mode, but it does not have the rear locking differentials that the Hilux offers.
Having previously secured a victory against the Defender in another video, the Arctic Trucks Hilux now faces the challenge of competing against the Amarok. Stay tuned as Mat and Sam reveal the results!
